Who is Diego Gómez?
Diego Gómez is a Paraguayan midfielder who plays for Brighton & Hove Albion and Paraguay. He is versatile enough to play in defensive midfield, central midfield, as a number 10 or on the wing.
He broke through at Libertad in Asunción, winning two league titles, then joined Inter Miami in 2023, where he won the Leagues Cup and the Supporters’ Shield and was named MLS Best Under-22 Player of 2024. Brighton signed him in January 2025 for a reported £14 million.
He captained Paraguay to the 2024 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic title as joint top scorer, was Paraguayan Footballer of the Year in 2024 and played at the 2026 World Cup. On 18 October 2026 he scored against Crystal Palace from 51 metres, the longest-range Premier League goal since 2017.
