Privacy Policy
How SitesNG collects, uses and protects personal data, how advertising cookies work, and the rights every reader has under Nigerian law.
Last updated:
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data SitesNG collects when you use www.sitesng.com, why we collect it and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain English. It follows the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission’s General Application and Implementation Directive 2025 (GAID), and it also meets the expectations of European and UK visitors under the GDPR.
The short version: you can read every page on SitesNG without giving us any personal information. We only hold your details if you choose to join the newsletter or write to us, we never sell them, and advertising cookies are only used where the law allows and, where consent is required, only after you agree.
1. Who we are
SitesNG.com (“SitesNG”, “we”, “us”) is an independent Nigerian sports information portal covering every sport played in Nigeria, the athletes who represent the country and weekly African sports news. SitesNG is the data controller for the personal data described here.
For any privacy question or request, email info@sitesng.com with “Privacy” in the subject line, or use our contact form.
2. What we collect
| When | What we collect | Why | Legal basis (NDPA s.25) |
|---|---|---|---|
| You join the newsletter | Email address, the date you signed up and the page you signed up from | To send the weekly SitesNG email | Your consent |
| You use the contact form or email us | Name, email address, subject, your message and the date | To read and answer you, and to fix any error you report | Legitimate interest in answering readers; your consent for anything optional |
| Any visit | Standard server logs kept by our host: IP address, browser type, page requested, date and time | To keep the site secure, stop abuse and fix faults | Legitimate interest in running a safe website |
| Pages that show advertising | Cookie and device identifiers set by Google and its partners (see Advertising) | To show and measure ads that pay for the site | Your consent where the law requires it |
We do not ask for, and do not want, sensitive data such as health information, religion or political views. Please do not include it in messages.
At the time of writing SitesNG does not run any analytics or tracking tool of its own. If we add one, we will update this policy first.
3. How we use your information
- Newsletter: one email a week with Nigerian and African sports news, new athlete profiles and upcoming events. Every email tells you how to unsubscribe, and you can also email info@sitesng.com with the word “unsubscribe”.
- Messages: to reply, to correct facts you point out, and to follow up on updates sent by federations, clubs and athletes.
- Security: to block spam and attacks and keep the site available.
We never sell, rent or trade your personal data, and we never use it for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
4. Cookies
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. SitesNG itself sets no cookies for reading pages: our fonts and images are served from our own server and the share buttons are plain links, not tracking scripts.
Cookies may be set by third parties in two cases:
- Advertising cookies from Google and its partners on pages that show ads. These are non-essential. Under the GAID 2025 and European rules they are only placed after you give consent through a consent message, and you can change your choice at any time from the same message.
- Embedded images on some athlete pages load directly from Wikimedia Commons. We load them with a “no referrer” setting so Wikimedia is not told which SitesNG page you were reading.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking advertising cookies does not stop you reading any part of SitesNG.
5. Advertising (Google AdSense)
SitesNG is free to read and is paid for by advertising. Ads are served by Google AdSense. Every ad is labelled “Advertisement”, and ads do not mean we endorse the advertiser.
- Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to SitesNG and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of some third party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info, or, in Europe, at www.youronlinechoices.eu.
- Learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
If you do not consent to personalised ads, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use limited data such as your approximate location and the page you are reading.
6. Who we share your information with
We share personal data only with service providers who help us run the site, under their own privacy and security terms:
- Hostinger: web hosting and email. Newsletter and contact records are stored on our Hostinger account in a private folder that cannot be reached from the web.
- Google: advertising, as described above.
We may also disclose information if Nigerian law, a court order or a regulator requires it, or to protect SitesNG, our readers or the public from fraud or harm.
International transfers. Our providers may store data on servers outside Nigeria. Where they do, we rely on the safeguards allowed by Part VIII of the NDPA, such as the providers’ contractual data protection commitments.
7. How long we keep it
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. Your address is then removed from the mailing list within 30 days.
- Contact messages: up to 24 months, so we can follow up on corrections and updates, then deleted.
- Server logs: kept by our host for a short period for security, then deleted automatically.
8. Your rights
Under sections 34 to 38 of the NDPA (and the GDPR if you are in Europe or the UK) you have the right to:
- know what personal data we hold about you and get a copy;
- have wrong data corrected, and have data deleted when we no longer need it;
- restrict or object to how we use your data;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, as easily as you gave it, without affecting what was done before.
Email info@sitesng.com with “Privacy request” in the subject. We may ask you to confirm your identity, and we aim to reply within one month.
If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng) or, in Europe or the UK, to your local data protection authority.
9. Children
SitesNG is written for a general audience and is not aimed at young children. Under the NDPA a child is anyone under 18, so the newsletter and contact form are for people aged 18 or over, or younger readers with the consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has sent us personal data without that consent, email us and we will delete it.
Security. The site runs on HTTPS, our records are stored in a private folder, and access is limited to the SitesNG team. No website is completely secure, so please do not send us anything you would not want lost.
10. Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change, for example when advertising goes live or if we add an analytics tool. The date at the top shows the latest version. Significant changes will also be announced in the newsletter.
