The story

Hat-trick week. Phil Foden scored his first Champions League hat-trick as Manchester City beat AEK Athens 5-1, and Luis Díaz hit three as Bayern thrashed RB Leipzig 6-1. Frosinone’s Antonio Raimondo also scored three, against Sassuolo.

Still perfect. City beat Ipswich 3-2 for seven wins from seven, with Erling Haaland now on eight league goals. Barcelona won 5-2 at Real Betis for nine from nine, with Lamine Yamal opening the scoring.

The holders win the big one. Paris Saint-Germain beat Barcelona 4-2 in the Champions League, with Vitinha scoring the third goal less than two minutes after Yamal had equalised at 2-2.

Goal of the week. Brighton’s Diego Gómez scored from the halfway line, 51 metres out, in a 5-0 win over Crystal Palace, the longest-range Premier League goal since 2017.

Coming up: El Clásico, Barcelona v Real Madrid, on Sunday 25 October, and PSG v Lyon on Monday 26 October. Champions League matchday 4 is on 3 and 4 November.
