Ghana's hunt for a new Black Stars coach reaches its first milestone today, Thursday 15 October 2026, when applications close.
The job became vacant on 1 October, when the Ghana Football Association and Carlos Queiroz agreed to part ways, only a month after his return. Ghana had lost both of their opening AFCON 2027 qualifiers, 2-0 away to Ivory Coast and 4-2 at home to Gambia after leading 2-0, and sit bottom of Group C without a point.

Who will choose
The GFA and the Sports Ministry have set up a five-member committee chaired by Fred Pappoe, with former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, Anthony Baffoe, Faisal Chibsah and Agbesi Dzakpasu. It will interview and shortlist candidates through October and November.
An interim technical team, not yet named, will take charge for the November qualifiers. With only two matchdays gone, Ghana can still recover, but there is no more room for error.
