The fight British boxing has waited more than a decade for now has a date. Anthony Joshua will face Tyson Fury at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Friday 11 December 2026, shown live around the world on Netflix.
The fight was announced on 24 September by Turki Alalshikh, whose Ring Magazine is promoting with Zuffa Boxing. Madison Square Garden had been discussed, but Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn insisted on a UK venue, and Cardiff won out over Wembley.

What is at stake
The winner will take the vacant WBA heavyweight title, left empty when Oleksandr Usyk gave up his remaining belts earlier this year. Joshua, 36, brings a record of 30 wins and 4 defeats with 27 knockouts; Fury, 38, is 36-2-1 with 25 knockouts.
Joshua's road back
Joshua knocked out Jake Paul in six rounds in Miami in December 2025. Days later he was injured in a car crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Sagamu, his family's home town in Ogun State, in which two of his close friends died. He returned in July, climbing off the floor twice in the first round to stop Kristian Prenga in the second.
Sky Sports pundit Johnny Nelson believes Joshua must be sharper this time. "If you're going on his last fight, he's in a world of trouble," he said on 26 September.

Fury's form
Fury has rebuilt since losing twice to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024. He beat Arslanbek Makhmudov on points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April 2026, then stopped Mariusz Wach in seven rounds in Pattaya, Thailand, in July. Joshua's win over Jake Paul drew a reported 33 million viewers on Netflix, and the Cardiff fight is expected to be even bigger.
The two men meet at a press conference in London on 30 September, the first time they will share a stage since the fight was confirmed.
Nigerian roots
Born in Watford in 1989 to Nigerian parents from Sagamu, Joshua spent part of his early schooling at Mayflower School in Ikenne, Ogun State. He won Olympic super-heavyweight gold at London 2012 and twice held unified world titles. Read his full story on our Anthony Joshua profile.
