About Nigerian Boxing Board of Control

Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBBOFC) is a professional body that is saddled with the responsibility of regulating and managing the specialized boxing activities and related others in Nigeria. This board was formerly inaugurated in 1949 after two known experts and nationalist have handled the professional activities for two years.

It was stated that the Nigerian professional boxing activities commenced officially in 1947, which after it continued its activities under the directions of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Billy Moore before inaugurating the officials in 1949.

The first set of the board officials were formally introduced between and 1949/1950 with an expatriate chairman named D.J Collister. The body was headed by Adeniyi Jones as the chairman in 1950 and other executives included Dr. Nnmadi Azikiwe, Jack Fansworth, Peter Cook and Anthony Saka Agbaje.

In 1960, Mr. Addis Akerele became the new chairman and headed the board till 1975 when another set of administrative was nominated to handle the affairs of Boxing in Nigeria with Chief Raphel Ogunbufunmi as the President, Emmanuel Adeleye as the Secretary-General, and Mr. John Dimoni as Assistant Secretary.

In 1986, Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBBOFC) was registered under Corporate Affairs Commision (CAC) by Late Chief Ralph Akin Ogunbufunmi and other members as trustees. Late Chief Raph later in 1993 decided to vacate the office after he has headed the board for many years (1975 – 1993).

The board has been going on with its activities under the management of the incumbent president Chief Dr. Godwin Kanu who was elected on the 7th day of February, 2009 and other authorized representatives.
